What is ‘Sort and Settle?’

A “sort and settle” is a method where vendors handle the equipment before offering any recycling or purchasing proceeds to the customer. This process typically occurs when a vendor wins a job by only bidding for their service charge, with the possibility of additional proceeds being added later if value is found during equipment processing.

How does the “sort and settle” process work?

  1. The vendor bids a service charge, for example, $250, with the expectation that additional proceeds may be found.
  2. The customer accepts the service charge.
  3. The vendor transfers and processes the equipment. If value is identified during processing, additional proceeds can be added.
  4. In this case, the vendor found value and offered a $400 recycling payout to the customer. The final job includes the $250 service charge and $400 in proceeds, leaving the customer with a net gain of $150.
